Norway's Rogfast Project

The Norwegian Rogfast project — construction of the world's longest and deepest subsea road tunnel, 27 km long and up to 392 meters deep.

This project is a comprehensive engineering solution designed to replace ferry connections and reduce travel time between key cities from several hours to just 40 minutes.

A budget of NOK 25 billion (approximately RUB 191 billion) underscores the scale and technological complexity of the project.

From an engineering standpoint, the project showcases outstanding solutions:

  • A tubular structure made of precast concrete segments with double waterproofing, designed to withstand pressure of up to 40 atmospheres
  • Use of tunnel boring machines with cutting heads for operation in rock formations at extreme depths
  • A comprehensive safety system featuring longitudinal ventilation with a capacity of 200 m³/s and emergency airtight doors
  • A reinforced structure that exceeds regulatory requirements for seismic resistance and corrosion protection

As of December 2025, the project is on schedule following its resumption in 2021, with completion planned for 2033.

Approximately 20–25% of the work has already been completed, including major drilling operations at key sections.

As survey specialists, we find the approaches to geological investigation of the fjord bed, deformation monitoring, and ensuring structural stability under extreme conditions particularly interesting.

Projects like this expand our understanding of the capabilities of modern engineering and the importance of comprehensive surveys at the design stage.
